Terms & Conditions for TPML Digital Platforms

1. Introduction

We, The Printers (Mysore) Private Limited (“TPML”), are the publishers of Deccan Herald, Prajavani, and other associated publications. We own and operate the digital platforms accessible via the following websites:

(collectively referred to as the “Website”). These platforms may be accessed through various means, including desktop browsers, mobile devices, applications, and RSS feeds.

For the purposes of these Terms and Conditions, the term “Website” shall include all digital properties owned or controlled by TPML, including mobile applications and third-party access points, regardless of the mode of access. References to “TPML” in this document shall include its holding company, affiliates, subsidiaries, licensees, and assigns.

By accessing or using the Website, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be legally bound by these Terms and Conditions, our Privacy Policy, and all applicable laws, including but not limited to the Information Technology Act, 2000, the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and relevant international data protection laws such as the GDPR (EU), UK GDPR, CCPA (USA), and PDPA (Singapore).

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India. Any disputes arising in relation to the use of the Website shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts at Bengaluru, Karnataka. Users accessing the Website from outside India, including jurisdictions such as the United States, European Union, United Kingdom, or other countries party to the Berne Convention and WIPO-administered treaties, acknowledge that such use is subject to these Terms and applicable mandatory consumer or privacy laws in their country of residence.

2. Use of Material and Copyright

All content available on the Website, including software, design, logos, trademarks, text, graphics, images, audio, video, and interactive features, is either owned by TPML or licensed to TPML. Such content is protected by Indian copyright law and applicable international treaties.

You may download or print extracts from the Website strictly for your personal, non-commercial use, provided all copyright and proprietary notices are preserved (e.g., "sharing a link on your personal blog is okay, but using our content in a paid newsletter is not").

You shall not reproduce, modify, publish, store, distribute, transmit, create derivative works from, or commercially exploit any TPML Content without our prior written consent.

Use of content for data scraping, training artificial intelligence models, or automated text extraction is strictly prohibited unless expressly licensed by TPML.

3. Copyright Policy and Republishing

This Copyright Policy outlines the permitted use of TPML Content. The Policy is incorporated into these Terms and may be updated periodically. The current version was last updated on 17.12.2018.

You may share links and publish up to five (5) article summaries per day, provided you: (a) do not misrepresent the content; (b) include proper attribution; and (c) hyperlink back to the source on the Website.

Summaries may include either up to 20 words quoted verbatim or 20-word non-verbatim abstracts. Any republishing beyond these thresholds requires express written permission. You provide a clear and prominent attribution, including a direct hyperlink back to the original source on our Services.

If TPML notifies you of non-compliance, you must immediately cease redistribution, and your rights to republish content shall be revoked.

4. Disclaimers and Limitations of Liability

All TPML Content is provided 'as is'. We make no warranties, express or implied, regarding the accuracy or fitness for a particular purpose.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, TPML shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Website.

TPML shall not be liable for any failure or delay in performance resulting from events beyond its reasonable control, including but not limited to natural disasters, internet outages, or government actions.

5. ePaper Subscription Terms

Subscription Plans & Access

  • A subscription to Deccan Herald/Prajavani’s ePaper entitles you to access the selected edition(s) via the Deccan Herald/Prajavani ePaper website and/or designated mobile applications.
  • All subscriptions operate on a recurring basis unless explicitly purchased as a one-time, non-renewing plan.
  • Your account will be auto-debited in accordance with the billing cycle of the plan chosen, unless cancelled in accordance with these Terms.

Upgrade of Subscription Plan

  • Requests for an upgrade to a higher-value plan will be processed within 1–2 working days after submission to our Customer Care team.
  • Service continuity will be maintained during the transition to the upgraded plan.
  • A pro-rata refund for the unused portion of your current plan will be initiated at the time of the upgrade.

Downgrade of Subscription Plan

  • Downgrade requests will take effect only after the expiry of your current subscription period.
  • The downgraded plan will commence the day after your current plan expires, ensuring uninterrupted access until then.

Content Usage Restrictions

  • All ePaper content, including text, images, and layouts, is proprietary to The Printers (Mysore) Private Limited and is protected under the Indian Copyright Act, 1957 and applicable international treaties.
  • Copying, reproducing, or publishing ePaper content elsewhere—whether in whole or in part—is strictly prohibited without prior written permission.
  • Automated extraction, redistribution, framing, scraping, or republication of content is not permitted.
  • Any violation of these restrictions may result in immediate suspension or termination of your subscription, without refund, and may attract legal action.

Refund Policy

  • Refunds for 1-year and 2-year subscription plans will be processed only if requested within 7 days from date of purchase and routed through Customer Care.
  • Refund requests beyond this period, or for other plan durations (including monthly or quarterly plans), are not eligible.
  • All refunds will be made to the original payment method, subject to applicable bank/card processing timelines.
  • TPML reserves the right to deduct applicable processing charges and taxes from the refund amount.

Cancellation & Renewal

  • You may cancel your subscription at any time before your next billing date to avoid further charges.
  • Upon cancellation, access will continue until the end of the already paid subscription period.
  • All subscription payments are non-refundable except as expressly provided in the Refund Policy above.

Taxes & Billing

  • Applicable taxes, including Goods and Services Tax (GST), will be charged in accordance with Indian tax laws.
  • By subscribing, you confirm that you are using a valid payment method and authorize TPML to charge recurring payments in accordance with Reserve Bank of India e-mandate guidelines and applicable card network rules.

6. Third-Party Content and Advertising

You may encounter advertisements submitted by third parties while using the Website. TPML does not control or endorse these advertisements.

The content of advertisements is the sole responsibility of the respective advertisers. TPML disclaims all liability for inaccuracies, errors, or omissions in such material.

Third-party advertisements may use cookies or similar tracking technologies. Your interaction with such technologies is governed by the advertiser’s own privacy policies.

The Website may contain links to third-party websites for your convenience. TPML does not control and is not responsible for the content or practices of such websites.

z You access third-party websites at your own risk and are encouraged to review their privacy policies and terms of use. TPML shall not be liable for any loss or damage arising from your reliance on any content available on or through such external websites.

7. Information Provided to TPML

8. Changes to Terms and Conditions

9. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms and Conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India.

All disputes arising out of or in connection with the Website shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

10. No Waiver and Territorial Publication

Failure by TPML to enforce any provision of these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of its rights under these Terms or applicable law.

The Website is deemed to be published from and governed within Bengaluru, India, regardless of the location of access.

11. Reader Contributions Disclaimer

Reader contributions made towards Deccan Herald/Prajavani’s digital journalism support the continuation of independent journalism.

Such contributions are not charitable donations and do not qualify for tax exemptions under Section 80G of the Indian Income Tax Act, 1961 or any similar provision under international law.
